I think I agree to some extent, but how it happens in practice bothers me because I feel like it is NOT done as a deliberate effort to push back against overly-restrictive copyright laws, but instead out of convenience. Who knows, though. Maybe people are thinking it and just don't talk about it.Emmahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06490395700786919792noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-295072463041838232.post-22138626829996695692017-05-16T16:04:44.366-05:002017-05-16T16:04:44.366-05:00I think it does matter. If you're telling some...I think it does matter. If you're telling someone for the purpose of helping them provide better service later, I'd say that's legitimate, but if you're telling someone for the purpose of telling a funny story or complaining, I think you probably shouldn't do it, or at least you shouldn't identify the patron. I know I still do it, though.Emmahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06490395700786919792noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-295072463041838232.post-35081282608790219082017-05-16T14:10:50.313-05:002017-05-16T14:10:50.313-05:00Does library privacy really require that we don...Does library privacy really require that we don't tell our coworkers what patrons are looking for? Does it matter that the info might help our coworkers serve them later (or it might avoid a problem)?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-295072463041838232.post-13441784873441704522017-05-16T12:30:51.061-05:002017-05-16T12:30:51.061-05:00Our library gave up the M _ F _ checkbox a couple ...Our library gave up the M _ F _ checkbox a couple of years ago when we were updating our form (putting in cellphone number blank, etc.) No problems.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-295072463041838232.post-40258008556244135642017-05-16T12:20:43.208-05:002017-05-16T12:20:43.208-05:00This is a good post! There's such a push from corporations to narrow fair use, I think it's good for everyone including librarians to push back. Make it acceptable to use images for non-profit, temporary use like signs, flyers, etc. Just my two cents worth.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
